The ThinkPad was originally an IBM model but it came under Lenovo’s management when they acquired on the range from IBM in 2005. Lenovo’s latest model in the range, the ThinkPad R500 covers the mid-range market and does a great job too.
It is put together very well making it a solid machine that also looks great. This is a solid business machine that can be put through its paces when being carted around and is a great choice when deciding which laptop to buy.
It is a relatively portable machine but is not the lightest in its class weighing in at just over 2.5kg. It does have the portable battery credentials providing over 6 hours power from just one charge.
The keyboard is excellent and makes extended typing a joy. It comes with a 15.4″ screen that is easy to use in high light. Other useful business functions include the integrated fingerprint scanner, this enables the laptop to be secured to only those with the correct fingerprint.
The spec of the machine is good with a powerful processor and enough RAM. It features a lot of expansion ports as well.
This is a good mid-level business machine that is slightly heavier than others, but excellent battery power and general build quality make it a good contender.

Lenovo have released a fantastic machine at a fantastic price in the IdeaPad U450p. It comes with a 14″ screen which features a fantastic resolution that can be used to comfortably watch films. It also comes with an integrated DVD drive.
The solid case looks really stylish and is solid. It features a matt design that won’t scratch or look dirty. The keyboard is not mounted as well as it could be but it is still very easy to type on. It features good keys that are quite responsive.
It features a very high specification covering 4GB RAM and a dedicated graphics card with 512GB of on board graphics memory. This enables it to support intensive graphics well from editing photos to being a gaming laptop.
Its a relatively portable machine and a good battery that can provide well over 5 hours of battery life on one charge. It features many expansion ports covering USB and HDMI and features integrated WI-FI.
This is a very competent machine with a good specification for a business traveller wanting a little bit more from his laptop at a very competitive price.

The new ThinkPad Edge from Lenovo sees them providing a machine for the middle market. They traditionally target higher end users with this range but this fantastic new machine opens things up a bit.
The first thing to notice about the ThinkPad Edge is that is comes in a range of colours including black and red. It also comes with a solid casing that can either have a glossy or matt cover. While glossy covers can look nice, they often gather a lot of scratches and can look worn quite quickly. If you are deciding which laptop to buy, then this should be taken into account.
This is a high quality machine. It feels very solid and well put together. It comes with a 13.3″ screen and has a weight of 1.8Kg which puts it into the portable business travel category. Battery life is not the best but still provides a competent five hours of power from one charge.
The continues in the tradition of providing excellent usability from Lenovo machines. This starts with the keyboard. The keys have a good amount of spacing and it is very each to type on. It has a good size touchpad along with separate pointer all within finger distance. The touchpad features the latest functionality that enables zooming, rotating and scrolling without needing to leave the pad.
The rest of the spec is a high quality featuring a dual-core AMD X2 processor and 4GB RAM. It can cope well with multi tasking and more advanced computing. It also contains an integrated graphics card from ATi which can be used for photo and video and also features ports to enable it to be output to HD screens.
The screen on the machine is excellent and very easy to use even in high light situations. This really is a best buy laptop. It features integrated wireless as well as space for a 3G SIM card. It also has a good number of ports such as three USB ports.
